Blog Post 8 Krystol

Time is running out and this mop dress is finally coming to life with the help of 3 other students who have been putting in work with me on this dress. i have finished hand sewing the top after hours and hours ! im excited to see the outcome of this dress and im so glad its coming out like i visioned it ! a couple of things changed from my original idea, like the dress, it ended up turning purple instead of black and some mop strings are black and some are purple so we decided to come up with an "ombre" look and also are visuals we figured it would be less time consuming if we didnt fill the trees with mops because we were running out and the process of dying and drying would take a full 2-3 days and we only have 1 week left ! but today we plan on putting the bodice to the skirt with the zipper before the dress gets a little too heavy ! i cant wait for the outcome of this dress.

The infamous mop dress has taken us a lot of time. From the beginning we had to find donations for the many mops that we needed. Then came the dying process, where things did not go as planned. For the reason that the dress was supposed to be black but for some reason when dyed they came out purple. So we decided to work with the change and we continued working on our purple Christmas dress. We had to re-size the dress because it was way to big for a size 8 mannequin. I am now working on coming up with a whole new idea for the trees in our display background because these trees were supposed to be mop string to go along with the dress , but choosing mops to do a couture gown has proven to be expensive and so to cut costs we are looking at other less expensive alternatives.

(handmade rosettes)

(bags full of recycled newspaper)

Has Been a long weeks between assignments, quizzes, midterms and other things to have everything ready for Week 9. Very excited to see all the progress I can not wait to see how it looks at the end of our project. Every time we're needing less, but now we are focused on the dress not as a whole but in parts, we made a break down to make sure every detail is ready to begin the construction. We have ready a lots of rosettes handmade with bags, which will cover the entire dress skirt and to simulate irregular snow structure, we are gonna use bags of recycled newspaper to create fullness and movement inside the skirt, the last thing is make it shine! with the glitter spray we are going to apply.
Im so exited to begin the construction!

We're almost there! we have 1 week left to complete our display. The hardest part, which was making all the rosettes for the skirt, is almost over. We've been making a few every time we met up in class and I have also been making some at home. These rosettes are what make the display and it's finally done with. The final part is to put the pieces of the garment together. This we'll be worked on during class. We also have the base, which is what holds everything in place, over with. I'm so anxious to see how this will turn out. It's been very fun and also hard work so I hope all our hard work has paid off.

Christmas Display: Photos/In- Progress

It's almost time, having just one more week to work on my display, "Walking In A Winter Wonderland." On the left hand side I added two photos of the progress my team and myself have done. The top left are the flowers I've been working on for the dress and on the bottom left are the soda can tab flowers that would be located only at the bottom of the dress. All we need to do now is put everything together, add all the flowers and soda can tabs on the dress. A struggle I had while working on the display was not being able to find gray plastic that would be long enough for the body of the dress. So far we haven't done any alterations to the dress its still the same to the original visual composition. This week that is coming up, my plans for having the garment done by week 9 would be meeting up with my team outside of class, as many times as I need to, to have the display complete.

the first mannequin i chose was from universal display. it is a thirteen year old girl which i thought would be appropriate for the clients from tween scene. her pigtails indicate that she is young and they add a little spunk to go with any 13 yo personality.

for some reason its not letting me upload the picture, but the second mannequin i chose was Susie from "high life & life style" on rootstein. her pose is so elegant and artistic and would be a perfect pose to display artwork. so i feel like the clients from artisan alley would really love her for their displays. her simple hair and her pose combined is the perfect way to display wearable art in a gallery.

The some of plastic bag rosettes.

The garbage bags full of old news papers.

The bodice of the dress (it kept loading upside down even though I took it right side up)
Since the beginning of this project I have been excited to see how things would come together. As of this week we still have a ways to go before it really starts coming together. Making all the rosettes was a little time consuming, but being able to multitask made it go by quicker. The dress is going to have a few different modifications to it because I had a hard time with the pattern, but think that it will still turn out just like I'm envisioning, a winter wonderland! There have been a few struggles with the project and having everyone there to help, but I think in the end it will all work out to look amazing!
There are still a few things I have to do to having it 100% ready by week 9; finish up the dress, which I plan on finishing before the weekend starts so I can start sewing the rosettes on the skirt, and just making sure that I have enough rosettes to cover the skirt. The last thing I have to do is glitter spray the dress so that it will sparkle, just like the snow when it has been untouched! Less than 2 weeks to go! Good luck everyone!!
